First of all, I am a big fan of reserving items online. You can take your time and search at your leisure. It's kind of like going on a hunt. If hunters were bespectacled nerds like me who want to read and watch dvds for free.
The only problem with reserving items is that I go through phases where I will actually think of all the items I want to check out, reserve them, then they arrive at the same time. Obviously, if I would just pace myself this wouldn't happen, but I am not that sensible. Oh, the burdens I have to carry in life...
Now - on to the burning question I imagine everyone reading this wants to know - what exactly do I currently have on hold at the library? Here are my 10 current items, in date-requested-order: (I've already said I was a nerd, cut me some slack...actually, the library back-end makes this date search easy. Thank you library...)
10. Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas! / Chuck Jones (blu-ray) (I haven't seen the Grinch in awhile, so I figured I'd give the blu-ray of it a try.)
09. Posters for the People : Art of the WPA / Ennis Carter (book) I don't know too much about the WPA, but have been noticing their posters a lot recently, so wanted to learn more about the program and the posters.
08. Edith Bouvier Beale of Grey Gardens : a Life in Pictures / Eva Marie Beale (book) What an odd duck. I went as her mom, Big Edie for Halloween.
07. V for Vendetta as Cultural Pastiche : a Critical Study of the Graphic Novel and Film / James R. Keller (book) Love the movie, recently read the graphic novel (from the library, of course!) and still liked the movie more.
06. Blade Runner / Ridley Scott (blu-ray) (I've never seen it. Really. Not a big fan of Harrison Ford, but figure I should watch this movie sometime...)
05. Star Trek / J.J. Abrams (blu-ray) (I am not a Trekkie, far from it, but figure this will be good in blu...)
04. Up / Pete Docter (blu-ray) (Wonderful movie, had me crying within the first 15-20 minutes. It's nominated for best feature length animated movie AND Best Picture for this year's Oscars. Ready to watch it again!)
03. Public Enemies / Michael Mann (blu-ray) (Watched this one maybe a month ago, but was too lazy to make a copy for my Dad to watch. Yeah, I do that - shhh.)
02. Being There / Hal Ashby (blu-ray) (I really like Harold and Maude, so let's see what else Hal Ashby has put up on the big screen...)
01. Stronger with Each Tear / Mary J. Blige (CD) (This one is for the Camper!)

The New Year Should Start with Groundhog Day...
Not really, but I just had the idea to start this blog last night, and seriously can't remember everything I've had out of the library since a mere month ago, so I'm starting with stuff out as of yesterday.
Before we start discussing library items, a wee little background...
While I've somewhat tried in the past, I've never really been a "regular" at the usual haunts, no bars, no coffee shops, etc. This all changed a few years ago when I realized I had become a regular somewhere. I finally had my own Cheers. Only this was at the local library. That's right, I hang out at the library. One of the selling points when I bought my house was that I could walk to two different libraries if I chose. And, believe it or not, I still haven't been to one of them. However, I work on the South Side of Pittsburgh, so my Carnegie Library branch of choice is the South Side branch. I try to go at least once a week, although I certainly have been there multiple times some weeks, and have skipped a week or two due to weather I don't walk to in, etc.
With this blog, I hope to have fun and share some of my likes and dislikes in both the literary and audio/visual worlds, as found at the library. And, God help me, I will actually update this for a least a year, or my blog title will be a lie!
